Application of the large flat-panel all-in one C-arm: Percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty (PKP)

The PLX119C is used in orthopaedic surgery to obtain a larger field of view and clearer images of the lesion, helping the surgeon to quickly understand the patient area and surrounding bones and improving the efficiency and quality of surgery.

Surgery case

Case name: Percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty (PKP)

Patient's age: 79 years old

Patient's gender: male

Patient's condition: Lumbar L3 compression fracture

The patient had an old compression fracture of the lumbar spine, which caused severe pain in the lower back, limited movement and affected her life. With the help of the high-quality images and flexible positioning of the large flat-panel integrated C-arm, doctor was able to quickly locate the position of the pedicle and determine the needle entry point, allowing the procedure to be completed more efficiently and precisely.

An intraoperative incision of 5 mm was made and the direction of access and the depth of access was determined under the fluoroscopic guidance of the large flat one-piece C-arm. A tube was placed through the pedicle into the vertebral body, access was established and a bone expander (balloon) was inserted. The balloon expanded to restore vertebral height and create a cavity in the vertebral body, determine the dose of bone cement to be injected and inject the bone cement to observe its diffusion.

Advantages of the P&E Medical large flat panel all-in-one C-arm for clinical applications

Most of the mainstream small C-arms on the market use a 21CM x 21CM flat panel or image intensifier, which has a smaller imaging range and can generally image 3.5 lumbar vertebrae, and may require multiple shots to determine the injured vertebrae. The large flat panel C-arm with a 30CM x 30CM flat-panel detector provides a broader view of the lumbar spine, typically imaging 5 lumbar vertebrae at once. This gives the surgeon a comprehensive view of the injured vertebra and surrounding vertebrae at one time, making the procedure more efficient and accurate.
